Introduced to the public in 1938, Thomas Schlag's designed of the Jefferson nickel is a familiar coin to many  generations of American's. Schlag won an award of $100.00 in a competition with some 390 artists. His design established the definite public approval of portrait and pictorial themes rather than symbolic devices on our coins.
During World War 2 the composition changed to silver so that nickel could satisfy the demand for war materials. This 1943-P Jefferson Nickel shows sharp Choice BU quality and detailed strike.
