Succeeding the Franklin Half Dollar, the Kennedy Half Dollar first minted in 1964, the year following the assassination of our beloved President John F. Kennedy. The obverse features the face of President Kennedy designed by Gilroy Roberts, and the reverse designed by Frank Gasparro features the American Bald Eagle.
The Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in 90% silver in 1964, then the following year, it was changed to 40% silver-clad. In 1971 , the composition was changed to copper-nickel clad. This 1991-D Kennedy Half Dollar shows bright white silver and sharp detailed strike.
